is a visual social portrait of young women and men in their privat environment living in today´s
modern city of Moscow - it is also a documentation of their special situation in the context of their socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backrounds.
Facing the architectual structure of Moscow's actual residential areas which are located directly on the edge of the city center the external similarity of the housing projects as well as the pre-fab facades, block after block, I became curious about the "behind the scene", the inside of this seeming likeness.
I was interested what life was like inside the homogeny of the buildings.
Especially I wanted to find out what life was like for the younger generation, how they develop their private, intimate world in their first own apartment.
For me as an outsider, unable to speak the language and on top of that prejudiced by the cold war images of the Sowjet Union it was important to incorporate the face of modern Moscow into the series as well as showing the historic monuments.
They stand out in the public space, they represent pride in the success in space travel, the achievements in technology, the victories, the worker and the farmer.
Along with the pre-fab architecture they are a reminders of the time before Glasnost and Perestroika and every citizen of Moscow is confronted with them every day. You see them again and again in Moscow and that's why they run like a thread through my series, like a special rhythm.
I juxtapose this "outside" surface with the private, personal world of the portraitees in their homes.
During the the "cultural exchange-scolarship" I had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the modern life of young women and men in Moscow and to portray their diversity, their individuality, their improvisational skills to handle modern life.
